Love’s Eternal Flame

Love’s Eternal Flame

The woman in red
loved fire,
even as a child,
her eyes glowed
as the matchstick struck,
the paper melting
by the sun’s heat
and a magnifying glass,
the red and orange blaze
of brushfires
that sizzle the sky
and burn the countryside.

When she grew older,
she hadn’t changed
her fiery passion—
she loved wood burning,
bonfires on the beach,
love letters charring
from broken hearts,
and the fanning of flames
from a dangerous liaison,
and always maintained hope
that the sparks of love
would never burn out.
