Molten Tears

Molten Tears

Daughter, why do jagged flower petals,
catch in my wings and sting my eyes?

Mother, it’s only my molten tears, fashioned
into memories, searching for you.

Why didn’t I hold my children’s laughter –
in amber before it faded?

Mother, Your arms will never be empty–filled
with earth.

How did my words get lost in mountain storms?

See, they are all still here – etched in granite.

Then there’s no hope.

No, there’s no hope.

NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR:

When my mum died I was determined to be strong and carried on not letting my grief out – that was a mistake which can cause physical illness.
Writing a poem about my mum helps to release deeply held grief.

The only argument I ever had with her, was when one day she told me there was no hope for any of us, (after she lost my brother).
I argued firmly that there was always hope. Sometimes now I think she maybe right.
