O’ Baba, Save Me!

O’ Baba, Save Me!

O’ Baba, save me!
I am drowning in the Naf River,
Before the river claims me,
Before I become another name on the endless list,
A soul lost to the waters forever,
A story left untold,
In the unceasing flow of time.

O’ Baba, save me!
I am drowning in the Naf River,
Can’t you hear my screams?
Will you let me sink and die?
I do not want to lose my life so young,
For I have a dream, a future bright,
A vision to rise as a shining star,
To raise my voice for our people,
And seek justice for my fallen brothers and sisters.

NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR:

I wrote this poem based on a true tragic story that occurred in August. During the second wave of genocide against the Rohingya in Arakan, Myanmar, people tried to escape to refugee camps in Bangladesh. While a family was crossing the Naf River, the parents tragically lost all five of their children in a single day.
