Of Roses and Thorns

Of Roses and Thorns

written by: Laura Bennett

Beneath the enchanting spell of moon
Passionate tales make lovers swoon
Upon night their gaze holds sultry desire
Entwined their bodies, a blissful fire

In light of morn, they soon forget
Like a rose with thorns, prickled regret
She loves him so, but he plays his games
Never a care, while she walks in shame

Men and women, both enjoy their tricks
In loneliness and fear, to get their kicks
To be loyal and true, never casting a stone
With charades and facades, they stay alone

To not find happiness, a tragedy in the end
With broken hearts, and nothing to mend
Moments of passion, a lifetime of blame
Solemn vows made, to never again feel pain
