PRESENT

PRESENT

Step into the future
In between the lines of fate
Carrying the baggage
Of the people that we hate

Whirling like a dervish
Through the seasons of a life
Left without the wherewithal
To counteract the strife

Days go by then crash
Into the who you think you are
Dazed and damaged
Flashing
Like a firefly in a jar

Nothing gained from nothing lost
As dreams go screaming by
Shackled to the past
We watch the future slowly die

Shadows cross the desert sands
Of time and space between
The where
The when
The how
The why
And what cannot be seen

Just let me see the end to know
Where everything began
Leaving well enough alone
While counting up my fans

For history will tell the tale
Of what you want to hear
As we re-write the life we live
With everything we fear

It’s details for the devil
As we keep the past at bay
Step into the future
As the present slips away

Left to your devices
You’re a ship without a sail
Tossed about by winds of change
You move to no avail

Either dreaming in the past
Or dreaming far ahead
We miss the present life we have
When living in our heads
