Raindrops

I can hear the raindrops
crawling down my window
running down the crooked corners in my walls
They too have a path to follow
down to the dirt and grime

Though they seem insignificant
they too have a purpose-
they brighten the horizon
so we can see where worlds meet and end
and people greet and wave goodbye
and where flowers bloom and die

Raindrops,
tiny reminders of the things we easily forget
sweet, wet testimonies of the air we breathe,
the fragrance of life at its best and worst

the hope they bring in invisible pockets
cannot be ignored
and the joys we find in them
are fountains of the lost dreams we buried
deep in the holes we dig to protect our hearts
