Riding Suburban Shotgun
written by: Stark Hunter
Are you ready for this summer cruise
This surreal sojourn to the asphalt waffle iron
Are you prepared to ride suburban shotgun
Singing loud from Pickering to Bob‘s Big Boy
Dissecting Whittier Boulevard like red
Mag-wheeled beetles in the dead debris
We will chase hormonal daydreams
Wearing D cup righteousness in night-glow
We will spend late hours eating electric water
From the same cup of green ethereal desire
A thousand glaring headlights of our dream
Caravan drawing up with drivers braking
Turning now with Burdon slurping singing
Spill the Wine amidst 1970 night-smog noises
Back to the boulevard never ending ceasing
These endless u-turns looking for useless snatch
Cruiser chicks in lipstick halters flipping off boys
From purple machine-gunned one-night stands
Of summer couch squeezings and purring zippers
Sleeping half-dressed during Johnny’s monologue
Now War wails again the ancient refrain
Spill the wine, Dig that girl
Now she guides my fingers to the well of voices
Perfumed streetlights stand blindfolded but recall
September nights long ago in the groping Impala
Those bell-bottomed flirtations transmigrating under
Neil Young’s stars there we ascended Sugar Mountain
As young fish jump from the spires to the cold gushings
We finger-started the jumping mind-birds to ride there
To glide there in the black light illuminations before us
