Sunset in an Empty Room

Sunset in an Empty Room

written by: Sören Heim

the chatter of the guests has long ceased.
the darkened silverware
has been forgotten on the table.
a single ceiling light still glows, dimly red:
sunset in an empty room.
outside: ashen fields & leafless trees.
I rest in the hallway, my head against the cold wall.
I try to remember the taste
of those high notes on the piano.
