Even if lightning struck me

I still wouldn’t move

And yet when I see her come

My hooves start stomping the ground

P.A. O'Neil

Born in southern California, P.A. O'Neil experienced what might be considered culture shock when her family moved to a small town in Washington State. The year was 1970, and the community at the time was not culturally diverse. Proud of her Mexican and Irish heritage, or "Smoked Irish" according to her father, she learned what it meant to be simultaneously in the minority and the majority. P.A. O'Neil's stories have been featured in over sixty anthologies, journals, and magazines. She and her husband reside in Western Washington. Her books, Witness Testimony and Other Tales, as well as Sherlock Holmes's Two Sides of the Same Coin, and In For A Penny, are available on Amazon.

I guess there’s a million reasons why I’m sitting on the porch of this cabin with a bottle in my lap. I took enough friggin pain pills to kill a horse, and things are beginning to get hazy around the edges.

I better get this out while I still can....
I was 16 when the Beatles were on Ed Sullivan, that was right after Kennedy got shot, and the whole damn country was crying. I remember I was down the street at Kenny Statler’s house because we were trying to start a band, and we wanted to be like them, plus I liked his sister Dusty, that was her nickname, she was 15. Their parents weren’t home, and we knew they kept their booze behind the records in the Hi-Fi, how stupid did they think we were? ...
