The Forgotten Will Survive

daunted by rumors
a grand old house,
haunted and shadowed
by sorrow, numbed
by neglect, the
dark side of reality
echoes every creak
in its bones.
where slivers of
moonbeams settle,
seduction from
yesteryear reveals
wispy and sheeted
figures, their woosh
fleeting, cobwebs unspun
creepy crawlies flee.
Oh, this moment in time
please set me free!

many Halloweens ago
wide-eyed cherry-cheeked
children celebrated the eve
in this once-loved abode.
yet unfelt is sadness for
its gentle and fragile soul,
the old house weeps,
dimmed is its purpose
much like me.

But, undeniably, together
we will survive til the next
Halloween.
