The Lament

The Lament

written by: Gerry S. Wojtowicz

I have heard the clash of indominable wills,
have seen the rush of wisdom slow, and finally stand still.
I have watched the mighty stand atop a glistening marble hill
conducting forces down below that know only how to kill, and kill, and kill.
I have felt the rumbling of imminent dissent
only to wonder, after a time, where it went.
I have seen the focus fractured with deceitful intent,
have seen the iron bar of justice warped and bent.
And through it all I have shuddered at the unnecessary horror I’ve seen,
have offered my humble shoulder on which the weary might lean.
I have hoped beyond hope that the righteous might wipe the wicked clean,
only to realize that the righteous are nowhere to be seen.
