The Pain of Loving an Uncertain Heart
written by: Jasmin Labatete
I adore how your smile finds me,
But ache to know it wanders free—
A bloom that bends for all who pass,
Yet I long to be your chosen grass.
Your embrace filled my empty core,
It gave comfort—a warmth to die for.
Yet it was only given when I demand,
So the sincerity faded, the flavor turned bland.
Your tongue is as sweet as ripened fruits.
The first bite tastes divine through every root,
Yet the more I consumed, the bitterness lingered—
The words became rotten, my excitement withered.
I admire how your soul is filled with garden gem,
Where petals can be found even in every stem.
I reached out my hand, I waited for the flower,
Yet none found my palm—just a cold passing whisper.
You vowed in the stars that I’d be your singular flame.
You pledged in my heart, “I’ll treat you as a sacred frame.”
But I looked at your hands, they held several canvases—
I no longer felt chosen, but an option like everyone else.
