The Speak No Evil Monkey

No man can be trusted,
but now you find yourself lost
in the jungle of wicked complexities:
quicksand, piranhas, and savages;
danger is death without agility,
so you must speak, speak to
the Speak No Evil Monkey.

Those dark and evil secrets,
double crossings and treachery
are tales you must tell
to one as safe as a statue
yet intelligent to accurately see
trouble with ability to be
the Speak No Evil Monkey.

Snakes, spiders, bats and big cats;
what better confessor and guide than one
so blackmailed into silence?
But none by thinking and guessing
can figure another’s reality –
so speak, speak to
the Speak No Evil Monkey.

NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR:
My Aunt had 3 figures: the hear no, see no, speak no evil monkeys. I came up with this poem based on many stories.

I was born in Key West, Florida on September 11th, 1951. My family moved us up to Jacksonville, Florida in 1952. My mother read books to me. I remember her asking me if I could read between the lines and explained the meaning of that. From kindergarten through 8th grade I attended St. Paul's Catholic School. I was in an advanced reading class in 7th and 8th grade. We read Quo Vadis, Homer, Mythology, Oliver Twist. I went 2 years at Bishop Kenny High School and 2 years at Robert E. Lee High School. Our basketball team won 26 games and lost 3. Leonard Skinner was our coach; the great band used his name.
