The Star Behind The Curtain

The Star Behind The Curtain

written by: Abagail Summers

Life is a show.
Some dance through the night,
while others balance in a world of uncertainty.

They watch from afar
but never see the truth.
It lives under the sun,
between the layers of
unsaid words.

Sunlight spills across the land,
lighting a pathway,
drinking from an overturned hourglass,
wishing for the minutes back.

It washes away the crowd.
Unties the knot within.
Releases the glow.

It pours into words, into actions,
speaks volumes to the masses.
There is no need to wipe it away.
The mess is colorful.

It spreads beyond the stage,
stirring havoc in the shadows
that linger in dark corners.

It tugs at your costume,
encircles your dome of protection.
“Close the door.”
“Pull the curtains,” it says.

Break away from the noise.
Stand.

This is your stage.
The curtain rises.
The curtain falls.

Step into the spotlight, take the lead.
You only get one show,
might as well be the star.
