What Would You Say?

What would you say?

What would you say to me today, if I announced that I was gay?

Would you entreat me to retract and cast your eyes in quiet dismay?

If I renounced to who I am, would you then say  all was okay?

But it is not, I must insist!

Although my hope was much short lived, that you’d accept me as I am,

the strong convictions you display are yours alone and hold  no sway.

Much as you ask I stay away, my love for you will never wane.

It matters not the wide array of choices made along the way,

we must agree to disagree.

For in the end we are the same, our hopes and dreams to be free.
