Women Under Patriarchy

Women Under Patriarchy

written by: Farman Khan

On behalf of every man
Writing it to Sharena Lee
Her Mom and all the women’s family
Please accept my deep sincere apology
Sharena!
Your poetry is not only conquering the nature
Singing birds
Dancing flowers
Flowing streams
Utopian lovely dreams
It is really not about
Romeo and Juliet
Laila and Majnu
Shirin and Farhad
deep oceans and blue sky
But it is a loud scream cry
Of how women under patriarchy die
Domestic violence
Physical abuse
Honor killing
Acid attacks
Killing women’s dreams
The abusive relations
We make your lives dry
Don’t let you freely enjoy
But all I say is you become independent
Go chase your dreams
Kiss the Himalayan heights
Break the chains
Be the Queens

Farman Khan is a graduate of International Relations, deeply interested in writing poetry as well. Currently, he is doing his master's in International Relations from Islamic international university Islamabad Pakistan. He was born in a male dominant conservative Pashtun land Waziristan Pakistan, where women don't share and enjoy equal opportunities in all walks of life. Women in Pakistan find it very hard to achieve their dreams and goals, they can't even choose their future. Honor killings, women abuse, acid attacks, keeping girls limited to their homes and even not letting them to choose their own life partners are the prevailing trends in many areas of Pakistan. Farman is working with different organizations to help build a prosperous and peaceful society where all could get their rights irrespective of their religion, gender, class and color.
