For Those Who Knew

For those who knew
The road to yesterday
The man who came
To cuddle in a long hug
With his eccentric appearance
And the tainted plains of sunrise he brought with him
Entwined in a jittery pulse

For those who knew
The Liberian that came with unblessed warmth
Dizzy with sweat
Till the test showed—– Ebola virus
Yet wanting to plough for a place on the moon
With the fluids that consumed life
In ways, death would eat healthy roots…..
In ways sickness would leave us with famished roots
Pressure on her for him to dance off with a false halo
But she refused what would be an obituary of the masses

For those who knew
The worms that ate the pleasant chuckled faces of some men … the ones that left them wearing death attire
The price of sacrifice

For fewer who knew
The Mother that was born
And the other health workers who rose as an army to protect us

Our would-have-been tragedies dumped on them
They- the Paraclete whose sides were bruised
Interceded for the Nation with an act whiter than the snow
They, mascots who wore our pain
To see extinction die
Putting themselves in harm’s way
Putting smiles on the faces of fetuses who not yet have made the world their own and for adults and children who more years desire-
To the woman and her colleagues who should be reborn for their selflessness

This poem is dedicated to Dr. Stella Ameyo Adadevoh and her colleagues for their swift response in curbing what would have been an Ebola Virus Pandemic in Nigeria in 2014. True heroes!!

Akintoye Akinsola, an accountant and poet from Nigeria whose work I know you would find interesting, intriguing, thought evoking and compelling.
