Budding Beauty

Budding Beauty

At high noon
the scorching sun
in all its fury
sears through vegetation
with reckless abandon
sucking the lifeblood
out of roots and branches
hallow and frail
parched from the dearth
of moisture spilling over
onto barren soil

Inside the terracotta pot
green stems spring out
raised towards the sky
a tiny red bud
a singular flower
sits high and majestic
petals stretched out
gently reminding me
that despite all odds
out of harsh conditions
beauty in this world
prevails
