When You & I Were Vampires

When You & I Were Vampires

written & performed by: Karima Hoisan

When you and I were vampires, strolling the foggy docks
down by the levee,
we were all knowing, all powerful.
Walking on the dark side, the night time
was our time and our venue,
blood red was the only color we sought,
to offset our black clothes, white faces,
cold skin.

We heeded no pleading,
as we sank our perfect teeth into their flesh.
All that screaming made the blood flow
richer, faster, deliciously,
like a spurting fountain timed to their heart beat.
Ahh what nights those were, when we fed and played,
when we stood on the edge of eternity and fell right in.

How heavy their bodies, now drained, lifeless and boring.
We moved on a bit drunkenly, our pale faces flushed with
their life surge flowing through our cold veins.
Indescribable, this rush of life, surging through us once again
mixing with our blood-streaked sated smiles,
Exquisite.

When the pale moon flicked behind the clouds,
we walked so gracefully, like royalty, giddy with murder.
We laughed easily, our hands almost warm, clasped loosely.
When you and I were vampires strolling the foggy docks
down by the levee.
