The Flower I Reach For
written by: Laine Monroe
Captivating.
That’s the only word that could describe you.
Perhaps many more, but this one seems right.
Those brown eyes, big and full of wonder,
The soil before the root,
Before the stem, the leaves,
The flower.
You bloomed like no other, and even if the sun didn’t exist
You still would.
Oh, how I wished to feel the petals of your skin
Bask in its silk and luster,
Smoother than anything ever known.
Spread you apart, explore the corners,
And crevices not even the light could reach.
The world could burn, and I wouldn’t care.
All I could see was you.
You.
You.
You.
For the smell of your perfume, drowned out
The burning of smoke behind you.
My love, there is no end to the metaphors,
Analogies, similes, I could use to describe you.
You’re too vast, too mysterious,
Too extravagant.
But my God, if I burn by these flames,
Let me be next to you.
