- Where, do you hail from?
I am born and raised in a small town on the south-western edge of the Washington coast. A small town called South Bend. I have done many travels in the states throughout my life, went to college in Eastern Washington and traveled the PNW, but I have still ended up right where I started.
- What is the greatest thing about the place you call home?
The greatest thing about this small area is the seclusion, sometimes having to drive an hour just to get a few things for the house can be annoying. But I am constantly surrounded by the Olympic Temperate rainforest and the beautiful Pacific Ocean. I have come to love the coastal life so much and don’t think I will ever part from it.
- What turns you on creatively?
I know that I am a very creative writer, no matter how hard I try to be serious or write something non fiction, the way that I write will never stop. I tried news writing in college and it was a constant fight because news writing doesn’t like personable and creative thoughts. I stopped trying to land those jobs, knowing that creative writing makes me happiest, to let my mind flow in ways that don’t even make sense sometimes are my best works. I come up with my most creative works in moments, usually when something strikes me while out in nature or a simple moment while holding my boyfriend’s hand while we’re covered in paint from our days endeavors. I think of ways to describe beauty and describe my thoughts, something that will help someone better understand what in feeling and what in seeing. When I sit down and write a whole piece, it never works if I plan it out, it must be in the moment. But I like candlelight, relaxing and music, a nice cup of tea and to be alone to help my mind continue to flow naturally.
- What is your favorite word, and can you use it in a poetic sentence?
My favorite word is such a hard question because I try not to use too many of the same words, I try my hardest to avoid having a favorite. But I still end up using the word spirit in a lot of my writing. I consider myself a very spiritual person, constantly meditating and writing about the beauty of mother earth, it always seems to fit for the word I’m looking for.
- What is your pet peeve?
My biggest pet peeve are things that should be simple but are not at all. Even the smallest thing, like opening a box or something that should be incredibly simple but it is covered with tape and staples or something that is totally unnecessary. Or doing a task on the internet that requires a ton of other steps and not easy to use processes that make no sense! So many little things that should be so simple but I cannot figure out makes me so mad and I just usually give up to avoid being further frustrated.
- What defines Shawntelle Moncy?
I guess thing that would define me as a person is always seeking a new adventure or else I will forever be dissatisfied without seeing some new trail. I love music, I have always been good at instruments but struggle to keep to one of them so I can fully learn it. Current instrument is the guitar. I am obsessed with incense, candles, essential oils and crystals. Currently striving to learn more about our universe and things like tarot, runes and the moon. I try to do yoga and meditate every day and use mantras to tell my mind constantly that I am grateful for each new day. I am vegan, I love red wine and my animals. I am a total romantic, but most creative writers are. I must write everything down to further understand it, to call myself down or to escape from my own reality, I must always be writing with a mechanical pencil that takes .9 lead, which apparently isn’t around as much anymore. And I own a blog that you should all check out because no matter how hard I convince myself that I need to calm down and get a 9-5 job, it never satisfies me. I want to be travelling always and so in hoping that, that blog, my writing and photography can help that happen for me. It’s never too late to dream so high.
