Dirk The Halloween Sucker

Dirk The Halloween Sucker

written by: Karen Walker

Despite licks from irate husbands, Dirk was a sucker for the ladies
—the cheap Halloween kind of sucker
(a bag of 500 for $2))
in garish colors,
with no flavor and a nasty aftertaste,
that prompted hairy eyeballs from trick-or-treaters
when he stood in his doorway dressed up as a sexy devil
and threw handfuls into pillowcases
because he didn’t like them either
—the sucker that is;
not the kids,
and certainly not their mothers.
