The definition of good-bye: a concluding remark, gesture at parting; a taking leave.

Good-bye, a word, a phrase, so commonly used! So simple yet so profound. It’s import can be carefree or emotionally charged; it’s impact inconsequential or immeasurable, depending on who utters it and with what meaning or intention.

Good-bye can be happy when said with the expectation of a future encounter. Good-bye can also be fraught with sadness when said with the knowledge of a prolonged or permanent parting.

Good-bye can mean so much to so many. It can carry numerous implications; both good and bad.  Good-bye can be hopeful, cheerful and playful or be laced with sarcasm; convey despair, remorse or pain.

Good-bye can mean so much yet so little; for the few and for the many. Defined as a common parting phrase, good-bye is much greater than the sum of it’s seven letters, it is sublime.
