Angelology

Angelology

written by: Wieslaw W Falkowski

translated by: Renata Hildich

angels
arise from the sweat of all saints
working in the campaign
advertising the only God

every morning
new angels come out of the river

they hold their hands
weary of hunched predators
alighting on park benches
in disguise sprinkling ashes
on the heads of new-born generations

all the time
timid angels like grey pigeons
with black and red legs
collect crumbs of bread
baked daily
according to Lidl’s recipe

then each angel praises God
for one and only time
and goes away
becoming a body for the soul
earth to heaven
a woman for a man

losing their wings
returning to the current of the river
in which the water flows as rapidly as time
from the very beginning
to the very end

anioły
powstają z potu wszystkich świętych
pracujących w kampanii
reklamowej Boga jedynego

każdego poranka
wychodzą z rzeki nowe anioły

trzymają się za ręce
boją się zgarbionych drapieżców
przycupniętych na parkowych ławkach
sypiących dla niepoznaki popiół
na głowy nowo narodzonych pokoleń

całymi dniami
płochliwe anioły jak szare gołębie
o czarno-czerwonych nóżkach
zbierają okruchy chleba codziennego
pieczonego według przepisu z Lidla

potem każdy anioł chwali Boga
jeden jedyny raz
i odchodzi
dla duszy staje się ciałem
dla nieba ziemią
dla mężczyzny kobietą

gubi swoje skrzydła
wraca w nurt rzeki
