Boat People

written by: Ryan Quinn Flanagan

nail filings under the door, a master stroke,
the masseuse of many fragrant oils no match
and the boat people had oars for arms
and wood for skin
talking of bow and stern like others discuss
the Kentucky Derby
and when they went in the water
many other people climbed on top of them
because they were more boat than people,
taking on water
as you would take on
anything else.
