DON’T LET THE FIRE GO OUT
written by: Sarita Montiel
”Don’t let the fire go out”, she said
I guess I took it literally
One rainy December morning
”Don’t let the fire go out”, she said
Murmuring ‘Mhm’ through sleep,
One of many things I need to forgive myself
”Don’t let the fire go out”
Always so caring and selfless
”Don’t let the fire go out”
I tell to myself as I crawl out of depression every single day
”Don’t let the fire go out”
I remind myself everyday
As I face the indifference in everything
”Don’t let the fire go out”
As night is young and so am I
”Don’t let the fire go out”
As the fire that used to rest in her
Is now a part of my heart
”Don’t let the fire go out”
As if somehow she knew what to say
To regain me strength day by day
