Earth’s Letter to Humanity
written by: Simona Prilogan
I whisper through the rustling trees my hymns of love
For you to see how forests fold up from above
The golden light sparking twilights with hope and peace,
Cleaning the space from cosmic dust so you can breathe
The air of life, while rivers chant soft melodies.
But now the tunes are getting sad and out of breath.
I cradle mountains, firm and soft, with joyful breeze,
Through water streams penning the valleys and the peaks,
So, you can add your spark of life beneath the skies
Among rich flowers with soft scents and meadow’s charm,
Enriching epic journeys through the seasons’ eyes.
Still, my poetry gets rotten on your grasping arm.
My sacred forests fall, my coastal waters rise,
The winds are getting wrong their tunes among the tides,
I gave you field and light and greenery between
So, you can hold your peace, your bliss, creating art
Yet, smoke and dirt are mixed within the dull unseen
Aching my roots, my trunks, my branches. I am hurt.
You people carve my bones; you fiercely drain my veins
Yet still, I stand alert through all the troubled pain,
Restoring broken meadows, I bandage ugly cuts
Healing the wrecked woodlands and calm the thunderstorms,
Fighting to have in mornings the soft, lavender lights,
While levelling your notes of diminishing returns.
I’m writing you this letter, enduring, strong and true,
As days are growing tense, my fate stands now with you.
The time is fleeting, yet your power is my hope.
Turn the tide, restore the fields, let the forests thrive,
Feel the earth beneath your feet, love the mighty globe,
Let the rivers dance! Jointly, we can still survive!
