Hidden Valley, a haiku by Robyn MacKinnon at Spillwords.com

Hidden Valley

we light up the dark

buried under drought-parched earth

of Hidden Valley

NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR:

Illustration description: A shadowy space, mossy but with signs of structures in the shadows, and doorways on either side with steps leading up to the outside world. The words of the haiku sit top and center in a pale Caliban Std Regular font. In the top left corner, a transparent figure wearing a long, pale dress descends one of the staircases. They have long hair, large butterfly wings, and downcast eyes. In the bottom right, at the foot of the left hand stairs, a tangle of greenish figures seems to crawl toward the viewer, struggling across the mossy cave ground. Just to the left of center a pale butterfly trails a cloud of dusty mist and other butterflies. Two giant, transparent hands also occupy the space, seeming to be pressed against an invisible glass. One appears in the landing in front of the left hand stairs, and one is stretched over the right hand doorway.
