Love Song in The Kingdom of Ashes

written by: John Sweet

sunlight and subtle hope and
who is there left for us to be in
this age of dying seasons?

who do we love if not the
people we used to dream of being?

faith, i think, stunted and
malnourished, but still faith

the future, which only has to
exist until my death

the past, which only holds whatever
meaning you allow it to

and i will be nameless in a
world of labels and tags,
but i will not be blind

i will be a prophet ignored and
then a heretic remembered

and all of it for you, the only
truth i have ever known
