Magical Island

Magical Island

written by: Hanna Biali

From spring, Hokkaido
attracts Tourists by its beauty,
they treasure it all.

The Cranes sing and dance,
find a mate to rear a chick,
then leave for a year.

Bears, male and female,
catch Salmon, she feeds their young,
store fat for winter.

The Stags are in rut,
fight hard to win the Females
and restore order.

The Chipmunks fill cheeks
to the max with seeds and nuts,
ready stash for winter.

Volcanoes exist,
some send up warmth to comfort
those in want or need.

Winter is long, icy,
its frozen pristine beauty
makes it hard to thrive.

But, as always, Man
and all Life spend great effort
to learn and survive.
