Mirror

Mirror

The walls here are paper thin. She stumbles through the arguments. They’re repetitive and unheard. She sounds exasperated, exhausted. It’s the homework and the ‘gettin to’. Loudly and with persistence her littlest one cries. How in the world does she still smile?
She is a nice enough girl always sharing and saying thank you. For she knows the heartache of her life, will be, if she lets herself down.
She is pretty and quiet. She is aggressive and Stern. All of her lights are off now and in her head she will deny them nothing. It will destroy her will.
I cry.
I know girl…
I look in the mirror do I really sound like that? It’s terrifying. It’s sad.
She is sad, the boy is sad, the littlest is crying.
She’s learning.
She’s teaching.
I can “see” her, can she “see” me?
