Nevermind, poetry by Greg Massey at

written by: Greg Massey

Ah, it’s just a few flowers –
Hibiscus petals litter the sidewalk that lies beneath the canopy of oak and pecan trees that lead to the front steps.
Never mind the two plants cost more than should have been spent just to gaze upon their blooms;
Never mind they were watered and tended to even when the winter’s ice pelted the ground;
And, never mind that they now look like stripped bamboo stalks that only a weary bird would visit for a brief rest –
I look beyond the sidewalk to the smiles that devastated the hibiscus flowers;
How those smiles devastate my soul. Devastation is so often the joy of the heart.
