Broken Again

Broken Again

Two winters have come and gone
and now the third Spring approaches –
as gradually as that day arrived
to find our house and empty home

Always and forever
circle only the dial of the
emotional clock where promises fade
as the second hand ticks on

I see you in a fire I lit during
a recent snow; I did not reach out,
or speak, but chose
to let it burn

It will always burn;
it will be warm for another,
for I will keep it aflame for
the one whose soul burns for mine.
