Nothingness

Nothingness

written by: Vidya Venkataramanan

High up in the mountains,
In a cave overlooking
The river,
Dawn broke
In muted hues
Over frozen
Mountain tops,
Light slowly creeping
Over a new day.
Why oh why
You may well ask?
a bell
over a cave?
Saint and sinner
In a cave did meet
On a path
To the master
To greet!
One hung a bell to
Announce
His presence,
Another
Withdrew
Into himself
To sense
The silence.
In the clamour
Of the gong
And the silence
Of the song,
Both did find
The master’s touch.
For I Am
The sound
And I Am the silence
I Am the light
I Am the darkness.
And everything in between.
From the cave
The knave
Did see,
Water and earth
Wind and fire,
Space and time
All the divine
And the mine!
Go beyond it
He said,
There is nothing
After that!
