Rajasthani Women

Rajasthani Women

written by: Nazim ZarSinner

The sand dunes of Rajasthan
In sunshine, shine like galaxies,
Each particle a dazzling star,
On shoulders of the burning breeze

And on that sunburnt sand for miles,
You go on foot to fetch water,
Long ghoonghats hanging on faces,
On walls of wells, circles gather

Two pitchers on head, one pitcher on waist,
Bodies wet with perspiration;
Vivid, innocent laughs and words,
From nature an admiration

“She is so nice,” “She is so dull,”
“She is cheating on her husband,”
“She has trouble with her in-laws,”
“She’s being seduced by an old friend”

With rich history of religion,
And diamond like traditions,
Padmavati’s immolation,
Revering the old compositions

Enchanting their civilization
Of rigorous work and body tans,
Though clouds are not so kind to them,
Yet, their smiles complete their spans
