Schrödinger’s Cat

Schrödinger’s Cat

written by: Dilip Mohapatra

I wonder if I am that cat
or perhaps we all are
locked up in a sealed box
under a divine experiment
of quantum superposition—

And the harmless atoms
out of our reach
now under decay
and approaching their half life
continuously releasing toxicity
in imperceptible proportions.

… and we are in a state of
suspended animation
within the four walls:
not alive or dead
but both alive and dead
at the same time
for the atoms too
are in a sort of limbo —
both decayed
and not decayed.

Alas no one would ever know
what exactly is reality
while swaying with the
enigmatic waves
cosmic or surreal
until the box is opened.

The question looms however
who’d open the box
and who would that be
with multiple consciousness
delightfully layered—
able to discern
observation from reality
under the cloud of
quantum decoherence?
