  1. Where do you originate from?

I originate from Algeria, where a vibrant land contrasts with the Sahara Desert and meets the Mediterranean Sea. It is a country rich in history, fortitude, and a deep poetic legacy that has shaped my character. Growing up in Algeria, amidst different backgrounds and languages, has given me both anchoring and candidness. Algeria is where my passion for words first took root, and it continues to nurture the spirit of my writing today.

  1. What do you cherish most about the place you call home?

What I cherish most about home is the concord between its people and its sceneries. Algeria is a place where generosity is her second nature, where the warmth of family and community creates a deep sense of fitting in. From the exquisite sandbanks of the Sahara to the Mediterranean zephyr, my country stirs me up daily. It is more than a physical place; it is the basis of memory, legacy, and love altogether—a fountainhead for both my life and poetry.

  1. What ignites your creativity?

My ingenuity is kindled by love, in all its scopes, at the core of which is my unceasing devotion to my beloved wife, Rima, who has been my muse and inspiration for much of my poetry, especially in my first book, My White Antelope (self-published on LULU). But beyond love in the personal dimension, I am moved by human connection, memory, and the delicate prettiness of ordinary life. A transitory stillness, a smile traced upon faces, or even a tough moment can set words flowing and changing emotions into long-lasting verses.

  1. Do you have a favorite word, and could you incorporate it into a poetic phrase?

My favourite word is craving. It holds an absurdity—pain and exquisiteness, absence and intimacy, desire and expectation. In a poetic phrase:

“O passion! I did really lose my heart.
Craving’s pain drowned me at the start.”

This word often breathes through my poetry, reminding me that what we crave most is also what defines our humanity.

  1. What is your pet peeve?

Indifference is my greatest pet peeve. To me, indifference is the quiet expurgation of any kind of connexion—it rejects the profundity of feeling and the self-esteem of human company. Whether in my everyday interactions or in the land of literature, I accept as true that alertness and understanding are vital. As a writer, I attempt to counter indifference by letting emotions and experiences speak out, which might otherwise be ignored, and by making connections where quietness might have built walls.

  1. How would you describe the essence of Walid Boureghda?

The essence of Walid Boureghda, as a poet who fathoms humanity through words and dives into poetry to give voice to personal love and turn it into a worldwide timbre. Professionally, I work as an HR executive, yet poetry is my real vocation—a room where meekness, resiliency, and ingenuity meet. I am both romantic and a pragmatist, formed by devoutness, edifying inheritance, and a profound belief in the power of words. My work is the echo of this journey: a continuous exploration of beauty, connection, and truth through the written word.
