Sticks and Stones

written by: Gerry Stefanson

when young I built with mini bricks,
houses, forts, structures
then a little older, advanced to LEGO
viking ships, space labs, anything

when stepping into the world
construction was left to others
dorms, apartments, such shelters
then advancing that world,
occupied condos, duplex
shared accommodation

when arriving, as an adult to that world
homes, hearth, love, my new architect
all the biggers, the betters, and believers
my guard slipped, comphy some say, safety others claimed
arrived vulnerabilities.
we, to acknowledge.

we never sensed the new wolf, baying at the door
how deep the bite
pain dogged us
after the bloodletting stops
the new besties – longing – lost hope – fear, yes
as there always can be worse (you nightmare this).

I now build with out abandon,
with dream, hope and joy
glue will not hold together the mini bricks of life,
nor fortress can repel unknown fresh/flash attacks
but there are ways, to hold your dreams together
though the wolf howls linger forever

NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR:

Building a life and building a home, hopefully a harmonized event.
The ‘but’ is that they may not be, out and/or inside factors come into play.
So, when the Big Bad Wolf – huffs and puffs – he may blow your home/ life down.
So, Sticks and Stones may break your bones, but talk may also bother you.
