Aleksandra Velikova

Aleksandra Velikova is a writer and a pathologist by training. She has been writing stories since the age of twelve and has spent much of her life trying to fit several lives into one: those of a doctor, a writer, and a musician. By day, she studies human tissues; by evening, human characters; and somewhere in between, she writes songs. Her fiction often explores memory, love, loss, difficult choices, and the strange persistence of the past in the present. She is drawn to emotionally complex characters and to moments when people are forced to confront what they have lost, hidden, or failed to say. Music holds a special place in her life and often finds its way into her stories—as atmosphere, rhythm, memory, or another voice of a character.
