Until All That Remains Of You

My heart lies exposed outside my broken chest
It rests in the place where you ripped it out
I’m not sure if it beats or merely bleeds
But still it weeps at the mercy of your tongue
At your words which tore through my weakened flesh
With careful hands I bandage the wounds
Then wipe clean the fingerprints you left behind
Before I place it back inside my chest
In time my damaged flesh will heal
But the same poison that drips from your tongue
Will eat away at your corrupted soul
Until all that remains of you
Is the smell of regret that seeps from your bones as they rot beneath your festered skin.
