What is Happiness?
written by: Benjamin Nambu
I have been searching for happiness for a while
The pessimists say that happiness is the smile
Their grieving friends wear
When a loss is too much to bear
They said it is also the name
Of the 8th day
Of the week
When they no longer have needs to meet
The optimists told me
It is the solitary edge in our journey
Where there are no longer people and places
No longer dates and faces
To comb for morsels of happiness
Lying latent in abundance within ourselves
To be discovered and shared
A liberating truth to which my eyes were once impaired
