Winter is Coming

Winter is Coming

written by: Gypsie-Ami Offenbacher-Ferris

A cool breeze in the Autumn wind
a nip of chill
to tuck a chin
Deep in the bones a cold is felt
not only inside
but also without
Where life once thrived strong and sure
tiny tendrils of weakness
now appear
No longer pliable to sway with the wind
the leaves are now stiff
their falling begins
One by one they drift all around
some take their time
others fall straight to the ground

Life’s cool breeze
caresses my face
lifting short white hair
Once I was supple
slim and well shaped
and moving with elegant grace
My joints now are stiff
some crooked and bony
most if not all are stuck in one place
No longer am I the trunk of the tree
my roots are all shallow
barely supporting my core
My Autumn is here
and is nearly passed
Winter is coming – at last – at last
