The Beginning. Or, The End?

The beginning. Or, the end?

written by: Debbie Tunstall

Peri-what, apocalyptic?

Before the ending
to all endings

(brief pause)

I am the furnace
inside a furnace
with Jupiter-sized spots.

Not to mention the mass
of many moons
erupting out from all its edges.

Then there’s the gap
in seamstress

like earth just crumbled
and rumbled
then split
into, erm…those thingamajigs—

ah, yes, hieroglyphs.

I am circular

Not arch meeting arch
but limb meeting limb
with a twist.

I am interplanetary
Get ready

Lagging thoughts
dragging me
from Pluto to infinity.

Plus one, two—

twenty million light years
of bulging belly
caught on camera by the BBC,

I blink.

The world
was never watching me.
