Ghost Mother

When you open your eyes, there’s a flash of your “ghost mother,” all bones, sallow, refusing to eat. You, lingering, near her hospital bed.
But the weight’s pressing down, down, a tightening forming in your chest, before the nurses hook you up, and the beep-beep-beep of the machine calls you to the SKY.
