Song for After Rain

Song for After Rain

written by: Judith A. Jones

I would walk with my friend Laredo
down the trails the deer have run.

I at my slow pace, he leaping and rocketing having fun.

Led by the scents his nose would follow beneath the trees into the hollows.

There I would find him,
searching for elusive scents that would delight.

Pawing scattered leaves for unseen things just out of sight.

The rain would fall in gentle droplets from the branches high
and fall in welcome silence like tiny diamonds from the sky.

It would not hamper he or I being wet and getting chill
because we’ve heard the sound of deer steps leaping over distant hills.
