Not My Child

Not My Child

written by: Karen Lynn

You are not mine.
And I refuse to believe that
I love you
I realize this may be a shock, but
Being your stepmom feels like a gift…
Is a lie.
I never asked for you
Later on I will say
You are everything to me
Blood never mattered
But this won’t be true in your era
Biology isn’t everything
I disagree
So, everyone says
You are not my responsibility
Even though
No matter what
I don’t put you first
It will never be true that
I call you my child
You can know without a doubt
I will walk away
Don’t assume that
I can’t live without you
