A Poet’s Public Service Announcement

A Poet’s Public Service Announcement

written by: John Grey

All this pain
comes with the territory.
Veneer ripped apart
by my own left hand –
that’s what I do.
Expose the scars,
the open wounds.
Hold back
and it’s a letter to my mother.
Hack my chest open
and it’s poetry.
Bleed on the page, even better.
Wrap my innards up
in the paper
and it’s the real deal.
When you read my stuff,
you have to believe
that I’m spilling all over you.
So buy my book.
But don’t send me your laundry bill.
