Blue Blanket

Blue Blanket

written by: Nicole Doyle

Before I even saw you
I bought you a crib
On Britton street
Knitted a blue blanket
To bring you home in
Had your name engraved on my gold bracelet
Aunt Linda gave me

I held you close
So cold
Flames In my eyes couldn’t melt
So small
A rigid doll for a child

Birds won’t sing you awake
Monsters won’t live under your bed
Sun will never burn your toes
Stars will never twinkle in your eyes
Most of all, you will never know what it’s like to be loved
Like I would have loved you

But I will name you
Daniel
