Dreams Don’t Die

Dreams don’t just die
and fade away.
They attach to the backs
of will-o’-wisps,
small orbs that float a blink behind
the corner of your eye.
At night they drift
around the ceiling,
watch you
while you sleep.
Sometimes they slip down
to your ear,
whisper low,
words always the same,
“Why were you so afraid?”
