Her Note, a poem by Carl "Papa" Palmer at Spillwords.com

Her Note

Her Note

written by: Carl “Papa” Palmer

I recognize her flowing calligraphy
always with brown India ink using
her engraved Sheaffer gold nib pen

on a monogrammed linen envelope
my name and address titled outside
inside a poem she wrote just for me

found by a cleaning team member
behind the night stand in her room
magnanimously stamped and sent

an old fashioned letter in her hand
from the heart of my oldest friend
arriving eleven days after she died
